Power Protection

Surge Protection

Surge protection strips provide protection against sudden surges and spikes in your incoming power.  They smooth these spikes out, thus protecting your systems.  This is the minimum level of protection you should have.  Make sure that your power strip provides more than just multiple outlets.  It must also provide surge protection and will usually come with some form of warranty against damage caused by lightning or other power surges.

UPS Systems

Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS) provide for continuation of AC power even when your commercial power source fails.  They contain batteries which are used to power an inverter to produce AC to run your equipment.  These systems come in a variety of sizes and the larger the capacity, the longer it will power your equipment during an outage.  These systems smooth out the incoming power and provide surge protection along with allowing you the time to shut your equipment down in an orderly manner without losing your work or corrupting open files.
